Welcome
About Rosie
My name is Rosemary “Rosie” Noonan, and I am a contemporary portrait artist and founder of A Rosie View, launched in October 2022. I am known for my ability to capture the essence of my subjects in bespoke portraiture and paintings of memory.
Raised in Shankill, on the outskirts of Dublin, I developed a love for art from a young age. After leaving Dublin, I stepped away from painting and worked in HR for 20 years. During my first pregnancy, I reconnected with my passion for drawing, and the stillness of the pandemic years gave me the opportunity to fully immerse myself in art again. I went on to study Contemporary Art Practice at NCAD, where I deepened my skills in painting, drawing, and visual storytelling.
In 2022, I launched A Rosie View to share my work more widely. My portraits and paintings are highly personalised, rooted in the belief that art can hold memory, emotion, and connection.
My Practice
My practice is centred on portraiture and memory work — exploring how images can preserve personal histories, relationships, and moments in time. I am interested in the quiet layers of identity, resilience, and lived experience that can be revealed through paint, line, and texture.
I work across oil painting, charcoal, pastel, and watercolour, often blending traditional techniques with a contemporary sensibility. My process is deeply collaborative: I spend time getting to know each subject and their story, ensuring that every piece reflects their personality, presence, and emotional truth.
Alongside commissioned works, I also develop independent bodies of work, where I explore themes of motherhood, memory, and the female body in contemporary life. These pieces often push beyond likeness into metaphor — using symbolism, abstraction, and material exploration to create works that resonate on both a personal and universal level.
Today, my paintings and drawings can be found in private collections across Ireland and the USA, and my practice continues to grow through exhibitions and collaborations.
